Overview

The Waterloo station upgrade is a part of the £1bn Wessex Capacity programme. Work comprised of rebuilding former Waterloo International terminal, reconfiguring platforms 20 to 24, and extending platforms 1 to 4 to allow longer trains to run from Waterloo along the Wessex route. This project increased capacity by 30 percent on the Wessex rail route, including at the United Kingdom’s busiest railway station with nearly 100 million annual passengers, London Waterloo. It was delivered under a design-build alliance and provides a bigger and better Waterloo with lengthened and new platforms, other station improvements and rail systems upgrades.
